Cinnamon Roll Recipe

This is my Cinnamon Roll Recipe that everyone seems to love and asks for all the time. It is not hard but it is time consuming. I have given it out to several people and except for my kids no one else has even attempted it. It is also the same recipe I use to make my dinner rolls. You will need a large bowl and I use a large mixer. I use to stir everything by hand but as I got older it got more difficult. This large mixer is my favorite tool in the kitchen

The Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Cinnamon Rolls Recipe fresh out of the oven

3 cups of milk

3/4 cup water

3/4 cup of sugar

3 tsp. salt

2 1/2 sticks of butter

3 pkgs. rapid rise yeast

3 eggs

10 1/2 cups flour

Cinnamon

Large bag of powder sugar

Heat the 3 cups of milk until boiling and skim off the top. While the milk is getting hot put the sugar, salt and butter in a large bowl. Pour the hot milk over this mixture and to melt 1 1/2 sticks of butter. (I cut the butter into smaller pieces so it will melt faster). While this is cooling off put the yeast into the warm water to start rising. Be sure not to get this water too hot or it will burn the yeast and it will not work. As soon as the butter has melted and the mixture is no longer hot pour it into the blender bowl and use the flat paddle. Add 3 1/2 cups of flour and blend. Add the eggs one at a time until well mixed and then add the yeast. Mix long enough to blend and change to the dough hook for your mixer and add the last 7 cups of flour. Lastly pour the dough back into the bowl. Sprinkle some flour on top of the dough and cover with a towel. Let it rise to the top of the bowl.

Rolling Out Your Cinnamon Rolls

Once the dough is ready pour it out on a large surface and fold it over once towards you and tuck the side under. After this start to roll the dough out as large as you can get it. Melt the last stick of butter and spread it on your dough. Then sprinkle as much cinnamon as you like all over the dough, but don’t get it too dry. Actually you can also add nuts and raisins or anything else that suits your fancy. Next take the top of the roll and start to roll it towards you slightly pulling it at the same time. Then take a knife or something sharp and cut this roll into cinnamon rolls and put them on baking sheets. This will make approximately 3 1/2 dozen rolls. Let these rise for about 1 hour covered with a towel and then put into a 350 degree oven for 15 to 20 minuets. Do not over cook them.

The next step is to make the icing for the cinnamon rolls. Empty the entire bag of powder sugar in a bowl add about 1/4 tsp. of vanilla or to taste and a dash of salt. Next add milk slowly until the consistency is easy to spread but not too thin. Ice the rolls while still hot as they come out of the oven. Then eat and enjoy.

To Make Dinner Rolls

Use the same recipe for dinner rolls as you used for the cinnamon rolls. Although do not roll them out as thin. Let them rise and bake about 15 to 20. As they come out of the oven put butter on top of each roll. I can’t resist at least 1 hot roll with butter inside. They are so good fresh out of the oven. These are awesome as small sandwiches or with dinners or breakfast with sausage. Actually they are good any time.

For either one of these recipes, if you don’t want as many, divide the ingredients by 3.
